A message from Dick Howells:

Since the Charleston Sail and Power Squadron is the co-sponsor of the Parade with the City of Charleston and the Historic Rotary Club of Charleston, we need the help from all members with boats.

We need marker boats to anchor along the course to show the decorated boats where to go.

We need members to enter their boats.

Call me and I will tell you all about how to do this. I have been doing this for the Squadron and the City for years and really get excited for the Holidays when we do the Parade. NO obligations: just call and we can talk.

The 33rd Annual Holiday Parade of Boats will be held in Charleston Harbor on Saturday, December 13, 2014. You can participate in the parade by simply registering, decorating your boat from stem to stern with lights, and joining us on the water. Thousands of spectators view the parade along the route from Mt. Pleasant to Charleston each year.

The parade begins at approximately 5:00PM near the Mt. Pleasant side and ends in the Ashley River, (after processing down the Charleston side of the Cooper River), at approximately 7:30PM. We say approximately, because of various factors, including wind, current, and the ability of the boats to maintain headway.

Captains and crews will be invited to the Captain’s Party and Awards Ceremony at Charleston Harbor Resort & Marina. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place boats in both the power and sail categories, with the best-in-show award going to the highest scoring boat overall.

For further information, you may contact Dick Howells at rhowells125@gmail.com or 843-437-6241.

To participate, please fill out the Registration Form, which is at the City of Charleston website (click here), and send to the contact person listed on the form.
