Operations Training

Do you know how USPS operates on the national, district, and squadron levels? Do you know what officers’ duties and responsibilities are? Do you know how committees work and to which officer a committee reports? Would you like to know something about these topics? Then join us for the USPS Operations Training Course. By the way, do you know in which department Operations Training falls? Contrary to what many of our members may think, Operations Training is not in the Educational Department, but rather is in the Administrative Department. This course covers the above topics. It also covers a short discussion on USPS protocols, uniforms and insignia, rank and grade, and merit marks.

Operations Training has no student manual, but the material can be downloaded from the USPS Leadership Development Committee webpage. There is no cost for taking this course, nor is there an exam. All participants will be awarded a certificate of completion. We will be offering a new Operations Training Course which will be unveiled at the USPS Annual Meeting in February 2016. This is a shorter course than the current one, taking about three to four hours to complete. The Charleston Sail and Power Squadron has been teaching this course on a Saturday at our Headquarters Building. We have been going to lunch at a local restaurant and continuing our discussion during lunch.

USPS recommends that all squadron officers complete this course, but it is not only for officers. We welcome all of our members to join the session to learn more about the way our organization works, and ways in which our members can contribute to the organization. If you have taken the course previously, USPS recommends that you retake the course at least every five years as our organization continues to change. This is really a great course for our newer members to take. We welcome questions, participation, and discussions about the material covered.

We would like to see you all join us for this informative and important session.

The course will be held at Headquarters on 12 March 2016 and will start at 0800. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact P/R/C Edwin (Ed) Kridler, SN, at: ekridler@bellsouth.net or call him at 843-762-3986.
